About the Region
The world famous Village of Whistler is nestled below the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains in the Whistler Valley, approximately 1.5 hours north of Vancouver. Whistler has been recognized as the top ski resort in North America for the past decade and combined with Blackcomb Mountain boasts over 200 ski-runs and 33 lifts offering some of the best vertical in the world. Is it any wonder the International Olympic committee chose Whistler to host the 2010 Winter Games along with the city of Vancouver.

If you are looking for the ski vacation of a lifetime, you will want to visit this resort. Everything you want is there from Slope side, Ski in - Ski out accommodations and small boutique hotels with dreamy spas to horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoe treks, snowmobile excursions and fabulous foods created by world class chefs in restaurants that can only exist in resorts like Whistler. Clean mountain air and pristine wilderness surround the resort creating one of the worlds most beautiful and visited winter and summer vacation destinations.

Scattered throughout the Valley are several pristine glacier fed lakes that are the perfect retreat on a hot summer day. Yes, there is more to Whistler than skiing. This year round resort offers three of the best golf courses in the Sea to Sky corridor and summer outdoor recreation galore. Fishing, canoeing, high alpine adventures, rock climbing and mountain biking are par for the course while visiting Whistler in the summer.

Whistler consists of many neighborhoods and is home to approx. 10,000 permanent residents. The hub of the resort is Whistler Village and this is where après-ski restaurants, shopping, nightlife and all the action can be found. The pedestrian only Village is edged with meticulously kept streets, patio cafes, fine dining establishments, shops and pubs. The skiing is some of the best in the world and so is the people watching.

Whistler has a rich history of Coast Salish First Nations people inhabiting the land for many thousands of years to the European arriving in 1860 to survey the area, giving it the original name of London Mountain. The name Whistler was later adopted by settlers because of the whistling sound made by the hoary marmots that lived in the rocks. In 1877, the trail linking the Coast Mountains to the Pacific Coast was completed and in 1914 construction began on the famous Rainbow Lodge on Alta Lake. The lodge was built to house fishermen and outdoors enthusiasts. Eventually a highway, named the Sea to Sky, was built form Vancouver to Whistler, and in 1965, the mountain opened for its first year of skiing.

Since that time, Whistler has grown into a service oriented, world class resort which knows how to provide its guests with a complete resort experience comparable to the magnificent recreational terrain created by mother nature
